Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, Rector of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, and Prof. Dr. Oğuz Gürsoy, Vice Rector, also participated in the meeting hosted by İzmir Katip Çelebi University (İKÇÜ), where rectors and senior university representatives from 43 universities in the Aegean Region, Mediterranean Region, and Cyprus attended.
In the opening speech of the meeting made by YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, topics such as quality-focused process management in higher education institutions, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and internationalization strategies were discussed.
In his opening speech addressing the rectors, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar stated that accessible, quality, productive, research-oriented, innovative institutions supporting digitalization, internationalization, and employment will shape the future of higher education.
Emphasizing that these topics are critically important for increasing and sustaining global and regional competitiveness, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar said, “It is of great importance to address not only the current state of higher education but also the forms it can take in the near future. The coming years will herald a transformative process that brings significant opportunities as well as serious challenges in higher education. Thanks to the coordination of our Higher Education Council and the resilient approaches of our universities, I can say that we have been trying to find a balance without compromising the quality of education for our university students so far, while also evaluating new opportunities. Meeting the expectations in society for the quality to rise in proportion to capacity concerns not only YÖK and YÖKAK but all university components closely. The global race in science and technology has grown, and competition between countries has increased. Consequently, climbing to the forefront of global competition has also become a challenging race. Today, international circles also appreciate that Turkish universities have passed a serious and successful test in meeting international accreditation standards and ranking high in global university rankings. However, it is not possible for us as universities to be content with the current situation. There are more serious distances we need to cover regarding international visibility and relative competitive advantage. This situation affects our country's ability to attract international students and faculty members and our overall reputation in the global academic community,” he said.
Rector Dalgar: “We had productive consultations at the meeting.”
In a statement after the meeting, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar said, “We participated in the Vision of Higher Education Towards 2030 meeting hosted by İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University under the chairmanship of our Higher Education Council President, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar. In line with the vision of our Higher Education Council, we had productive consultations at the meeting, which enabled the development of a roadmap for future higher education policies by focusing on topics such as digital skills, big data, international recognition and reputation, entrepreneurship and innovation, performance and quality assurance, artificial intelligence, and sensitivity to employment. As MAKÜ, we will continue our work intensively and focused, taking into account the opportunities and threats of the higher education ecosystem in line with the vision, strategic goals, and priorities of the Higher Education Council. MAKÜ will continue to contribute to regional and social development with its fully accredited, student-centered university and its entrepreneurial and innovative research and development ecosystem. I thank everyone who contributed to the organization of the meeting” he said.
