Within the scope of the protocol; academic research and field studies will be conducted to support the economic and social development of the districts of Gölhisar, Çavdır, Altınyayla, Yeşilova, Tefenni, Karamanlı, and Kemer. The scientific infrastructure of the university will be integrated with the business world in the region to create new investment opportunities.
Rector Dalgar; “We are always pleased to work in collaboration with strong civil society structures like our Chamber of Commerce for every part of Burdur, regardless of Western Burdur, Eastern Burdur, or Central Burdur, and to cooperate with all institutions of our state. May this cooperation protocol be beneficial, and may God grant us to serve our people and region well and achieve good results”
MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar stated that they are always ready to support regional development with the academic knowledge and research infrastructure of the university, saying, “We will develop projects in light of scientific data for the development of Western Burdur. With this collaboration, we will contribute to the region in the fields of industry, agriculture, and tourism”.
Strong collaboration in science, industry, and agriculture
BUTSO President Yusuf Keyik emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “This joint work we are conducting with MAKÜ aims to analyze the dynamics of Western Burdur using scientific methods, strengthen the local economy, and ensure sustainable development. We will develop projects aimed at women's and youth employment and will utilize the agricultural, industrial, and tourism potential in the region more effectively based on scientific data”.
The region's potential will be evaluated with academic support
Rector Dalgar pointed out the tourism, agriculture, and industry potential of Western Burdur, stating that the university will provide scientific contributions in these areas.
“I personally, along with all our institutional capacity, will contribute to these studies, and I am very happy about it.
Gölhisar: The tourism and agricultural potential of our Gölhisar has turned the region we call the Gölhisar plain into an important greenhouse center in Turkey in recent years. Gölhisar already has a very large tourism potential due to Kibrya. During the recent visit of our Minister of Tourism, a large part of the meeting was about Kibrya and Sagalassos. Because these archaeological values, especially in Kibrya, have seen accelerated work recently, and our excavation work as a university is very important.
Yeşilova: In Yeşilova, again, Salda Lake. Recently, as a university, we established a science center at Salda Lake. We are preparing for the opening of this science center, hopefully. With the contributions of you esteemed members of the press, we have started to receive messages and emails from all over the world saying, ‘We want to visit here, we want to come and conduct scientific research here.’ We are quickly preparing that place as well. The establishment of the Salda Lake Science Center was officially published in the Official Gazette last Sunday and came into effect. We have tremendous tourism potential in Salda as well. However, there is a potential there that is just sitting; we need to transform it into profit and the development of this city through very smart organizations and collective intelligence, rather than just saying, ‘Go and benefit from that potential.’
Tefenni: Our Tefenni is an important center in Turkey for the production of medicinal aromatic plants known as fennel. Karamanlı is a region famous for its marble, where companies from all over Turkey and the world have come to open marble quarries. Kemer, Çavdır are regions that stand out particularly in livestock. Our university has the academic infrastructure to support these regions, and we hope that we can contribute more to our region and our people in these matters. We are excited to provide this contribution.” said.
The cooperation protocol was formalized by the signing of BUTSO President Yusuf Keyik and MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar. The ceremony, attended by representatives from academia and the business world, was considered an important step towards the future of Western Burdur.
