In the opening of the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar provided information about the studies conducted in line with educational policies, research and development activities, and the mission of social contribution. Dalgar stated, “In this meeting with our department heads, we want to share the observations and experiences we have gained from the field and create a common vision for the future.”
Rector Dalgar emphasized that Mehmet Akif Ersoy University stands out in higher education with its innovative practices, stating, “It is a source of pride for us that the practices we initiated years ago are now being emulated by other universities and are coming to the forefront in the Higher Education system. According to the data from the Presidential Human Resources Office, we are ranked 22nd in Turkey in terms of the employment rate of our graduates in their fields.”
“The 6+2 Applied Education Model has brought success”
Referring to the applied education model, Rector Dalgar noted that the 6+2 system is successfully implemented in faculties, while the 3+1 system is maintained in vocational schools. “Thanks to this model, our students gain work experience before graduating and establish direct contact with the industry. This not only contributes to our students' careers but also allows us to train graduates that meet the expectations of the business world.” he said.
“Do not let your diploma limit you”
In his speech, Rector Dalgar emphasized that with the Micro-Credentials Program implemented for the first time at MAKÜ in Turkey, they enable students to continuously develop themselves even after graduation. “It is no longer possible to progress in life with just one diploma. With micro-credentials, our students are developing their digital skills and gaining competencies in different fields.” he stated.
“Digital transformation and accreditation are our priority areas”
Rector Dalgar also mentioned MAKÜ's digital transformation process, stating that they have consolidated academic, administrative, and student services on a single platform with the MAKÜ+ application. “It is of great importance for our department heads to disseminate this system in faculties. Thus, our students experience a more effective and accessible university experience in every field.”
Rector Dalgar indicated that accreditation efforts are also among the priority issues, stating, “As a university, we received full accreditation for 5 years. Now we have initiated departmental accreditation processes in all our faculties. This will both enhance the quality of our programs and increase the national and international value of our diplomas.”
“We are on the path to becoming a respected university internationally”
Rector Dalgar pointed out that MAKÜ has achieved significant successes in world university rankings, stating, “We are 6th in social sciences in Turkey and 15th-16th in other fields. We are among the top 500 and 1000 universities in the world in some categories. However, beyond numerical successes, we aim to progress without compromising on the quality of education.”
“Our goal is to train responsible and competent graduates”
Emphasizing that one of the main goals of the university is to educate students with a sense of responsibility towards society and their professions, Rector Dalgar stated, “We must teach our students not to just store information, but to learn. It is our collective duty to help them develop their experiential learning skills and grow as individuals who contribute to society.”
In the second part of the meeting, alongside Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Oğuz Gürsoy and Prof. Dr. Ömer Tekşen were also present. Participants answered the questions of the department heads, listened to their suggestions, and made evaluations regarding the future of the university.
